CHAMPION FOR CLIMATE CHANGE AND GREEN FINANCE
ACTIRI is Focused on Climate Change and Green Finance, capacity building, policy mainstreaming and program management in the continent.
The AU Agenda 2063 inspiration of having a prosperous Africa, based on inclusive growth and sustainable development underscores member states to adopt strategic and effective responses effective (adaptation, mitigation and resilience) for environmentally sustainable and climate resilient economies and communities. To achieve this goal, member countries need to prioritize on sustainable natural resource management, biodiversity conservation, genetic resources and ecosystems, sustainable consumption and production patterns, water security, climate resilience and natural disasters preparedness and prevention and renewable energy.
At continental level, the implementation aspiration one (1) has risen by 8% from 29% in 2019 to 37% in 2021 acording to the Report No. 2 on the implementation of AU Agenda 2063 . This achievement can be heavily contributed by the tremendous increase of goal seven (7) from 38% to 81%, within the two-year span from 2019 to 2021. Specifically, Kenya was a major contributor to this achievement by registering a 2.8% improvement in protecting coastal and marine areas, an increase from 13.2% to 16% in preservation of inland and terrestrial water towers of Mt. Kenya, Mau complex, Cherangany, Aberdares, and Mt. Elgon.
