TREVOR SIMUMBA
Mr. Trevor Simumba is a high profile senior international development economist with 20+ years of progressive experience in delivering strategic international trade, business development and economic development advisory services to major Government and inter-governmental clients in over 30 countries. He has worked extensively on the continent of Africa including in Angola, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Ghana, The Gambia, Nigeria, Malawi, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe. He has also worked in the USA, UK and Western Europe.
Trevor is currently based at the African Union Commission on secondment (funded by the EU Commission) to the Department of Economic Development, Trade, Industry, and Mining as a Senior Trade Expert. This follows a recent attachment to the Gambian Government as a Senior Adviser and Expert on the Business Environment and Private Sector Development under a Technical Assistance project also funded by the European Union.
Trevor has an exceptional ability to network across sectors and is regularly cited for developing and nurturing key national and international networks including mainstream and social media. He strong inter-personal and diplomatic skills honed over many years advising Governments and Donor agencies with proven ability to motivate diverse groups and high-level managerial skills. He has worked on large technical assistance projects funded by the European Commission, UK DFID (now FCDO), World Bank, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the United Nations specialized trade and investment agencies.
As a Senior Adviser to the Governments of Sierra Leone (2004 to 2006/2014-2016) and Zambia (2006 to 2008), Trevor managed and delivered high level strategic public-sector capacity building programs and policy advice to Senior Government officials at the level of Cabinet Minister and Heads of Departments. He has managed consulting engagements that have realized great value to both the private and public sector mainly within Sub Saharan Africa focusing on international trade and investment enhancement, economic policy reform, private sector development, regional integration and industrial development.
He is a recognized leader and mentor who effectively manages’ multiple project and task teams in complex environments as a Lead Consultant/Team Leader in project/programme development and management. Trevor holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Business and Finance from Oxford Brookes University; Post Graduate Certificate in Macro Economic Policy from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, International Relations and Diplomacy from Schiller International University.
